An open trough collects everything above it
An open gutter catches whatever the trees above it let go of. Leaves, twigs and nests settle in the trough, animals move in, and the first hard rain finds the corners and spills over them.
Clogged gutters and leaks can cause water backups that lead to erosion and dry rot, and moisture problems in your basement. In a Wisconsin winter a packed trough is worse: it holds water at the eave, and that water freezes against the fascia.

We install a leaf-free gutter protection system built on a sturdy aluminum gutter cover that helps your gutters stay clog-free. It is made to keep leaves, debris and animals out without you having to clean the gutters regularly.
Two styles cover most houses. A perforated cover lets water through its openings and sheds leaves off the top. A micro-mesh cover uses a much finer screen to hold back smaller debris as well. Which one suits you depends on your roof and the trees around it.

Less ladder time, and what to still look at each fall
Cleaning a gutter is risky, and guards take most of that ladder time out of your year. Affordable, effective guards extend the life of your gutters and improve how well they work.
A guard is not a promise that you never look up again. Each fall, once the leaves are down, glance along the run for debris sitting on top of the cover, check that the downspout outlet is flowing, and look at the corners.
